KUALA LUMPUR: The current state of podcasts seems to be maintaining and will continue to grow based on given data and experience.
“It’s an exciting time for Podcasters” said Editor of Podnews, James Cridland.
Spotify and Apple Podcast are the two leading platforms in most countries with some such as the US and UK prefer Apple Podcast while Indonesia and Malaysia prefer Spotify with news, comedy, and society and culture being the top 3 most listened to genre.
Cridland exclaimed that podcast losing its exclusivity has resulted in a positive response for the podcasting industry as the number of listeners has increased because of this.
APAC Audio Marketplace Operations Director from Triton Digital, Simon Lee found that the most popular day and time for people to listen to a podcast is during the weekdays in the morning between 7am to 9am.
Most of the time, podcasts are mostly listened to on the go as a over 90% of listeners use their phone to download their favorite podcasts.
This further strengthens the data found by Podcast Inventory Manager from Otonal Inc., Shuka Muranishi through a survey of 10,000 people in between the ages 16 to 69 that 87 percent of listeners listen to a podcast while performing other activities.
Because of this, the Philippines have maintained viewership when compared to other countries from a year ago until now.
CEO of 1UpMedia, Guang Jin Yeo elaborates further and mentions that with Philippines having one of the lengthiest public transportation times in the world, passengers would most likely just listen to a podcast during the journey.
The Podcast industry has seen a growth even after the pandemic and will continue to stay relevant as many are signaling for more society and culture, crime and comedy podcast episodes to be produced as stated by Lee.
