Radiodays Asia 2024: A Platform for Innovation and Growth in Radio and Audio Broadcasting

KUALA LUMPUR: Radiodays Asia (RDA) returned on the 2nd of September at 9:00 a.m. for its fifth instalment.

This year with more than 300 attendees from all over the world, the aim of the conference was to provide an insight on sales, research, sustainability and many other relevant topics as well as room for discussion among experts in the field of Radio, Audio and Podcast.

Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Bin MD ISA, The Chief Secretary of the Malaysian Ministry of Communications stated that RDA allows for the brightest minds of Radio, Audio and Broadcasting to an exchange ideas, new trends and industry insights, along the lines that podcasting integrating AI has contributed to a more dynamic and competitive landscape.

He also stated that he is confident that this event will be, “a resounding success and reassures that the Ministry of Communications remains committed in supporting the radio industry in Malaysia.”

Peter Niegel, General Manager of RDA Europe also emphasised that the broadcasting industry requires new ways to reach audiences through self-reinvention and working smarter with new technology to remain relevant among the younger demographic.


Olya Booyar, Head of Radio at the Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU), discussed the challenges and opportunities in radio, including financial constraints and navigating governmental demands.

She highlighted the importance in properly rebuilding the industry after COVID-19 to fight misinformation with creativity.

Booyar emphasised that while traditional radio may be changing, new forms like long-form audio and podcasts are soon set to thrive, aided by AI and social media.

Nazri Noran, CEO of Media Prima Audio, shared insights on Malaysian radio’s unique strengths, that being, broadcasting in multiple languages allowing for unity which is “what makes us truly Malaysia.

He stressed the importance of promoting unity and maintaining the radio industry as it’s the most trusted news source, especially in rural areas.

Wan Azhan b. Wan Hamat, Director of RTM Sarawak, underscored the growing significance of podcasts by stating that “Podcasts allow us to explore niche topics and offer content in new dimensions“.

He explained, “with their variety, low production costs, and global reach, podcasts open up new avenues for content sharing and audience engagement”.
