The Success of the Asia Media Summit 2019

Opening the 2019 Asia Media Summit in Siem Reap, the Cambodian President Hun Sen talked about the changes being faced by traditional media as it evolves to the digital and social media era, which he described as the Industrial Revolution 4.0. “Sharing information on digital technologies can help us fight fake news and cyber crime. These are posing risks to security in the region and the world… “Digital technologies are also helping governments transform public services, increase accountability and transparencies, and improving the economy. The Asia Media Summit (AMS) is organised by AIBD, which is a foundation partner of Radiodays Asia. For many years Radiodays has presented a workshop at AMS, which has now expanded to become Asia’s first Radiodays Conference, to be held on 27 & 28 August this year in Kuala Lumpur. In his presentation on day one of AMS, AIBD President Fayyaz Sheheryar talked about the changing technology affecting broadcasters and audiences, including the internet of things, big data, artificial intelligence, digitisation and new media. “Truth in media is vanishing. To regain people’s trust in media there is a need to produce compelling stories for public good. Impactful truthful storytelling must not be lost… The world is experiencing a huge impact from the changes to media… Fake news is the bane of the media in developing countries.” Myanmar Information Minister Pe Myint spoke openly about the previous repression of media in his country and explained how now the Government of Myanmar is trying to foster an open media environment where people can use broadcast and social media to engage with their democracy. “Freedom of expression was seriously restricted in Myanmar for decades, but now people can disclose what is in their hearts and minds. “Social media is a very effective tool to disseminate their thoughts and feelings to their friends and politicians. This is a positive thing that people have gained from the digital revolution. “Another thing I noticed is that those who use social media are not people who usually read newspapers or write their opinions… they are now getting practice in literacy and engaging with the broader society through digital media.” International trainer Steve Ahern conducted a workshop on creative programming and technology as part of the Summit. The full day workshop was sponsored by Radiodays. AIBD, Commercial Radio Malaysia and a group of Asian broadcast companies were responsible for inviting Radiodays to bring the best of the European event to Asia, so that Asian broadcasters can engage with the newest and most exciting trends in the world of radio. The first Radiodays Asia conference is now just over two months away, Register today.     Membuka Sidang Kemuncak Media Asia 2019 di Siem Reap, Presiden Kemboja Hun Sen membicarakan perubahan yang dihadapi oleh media tradisional kerana ia berkembang ke era media digital dan sosial, yang digambarkan sebagai Revolusi Perindustrian 4.0.
