Virgin Radio UK are coming to Asia to tell the amazing story of how one of the biggest names in radio in the UK, Chris Evans, left the biggest public broadcaster and came back to the station he started to reinvigorate the brand! In an article for BBC News at the time (ironically the broadcaster Chris Evans was leaving) he said, “Some of us are mountain climbers [but] if you get to the top of your favourite mountain and you stay there, you become an observer. I want to keep climbing.” In the same article it noted “Evans formerly hosted the breakfast show on the first incarnation of Virgin Radio – which went on to become Absolute Radio – between 1997 and 2001. Virgin Radio UK, which was launched two years ago and is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s Wireless Group, is a digital-only station with around 400,000 weekly listeners, compared with Radio 2’s figure of 15 million”. Is it a fairy tale is there a happy ending? And how is Virgin Radio changing now they have this star broadcaster? Mike Cass is currently the Content Director for News UK’s three national music stations: Virgin Radio UK, Virgin Radio Anthems & Virgin Radio Chilled. He will be speaking at Radiodays Asia about the changes recently and sharing thoughts and ideas from the stations experiences. This is a must see session!
